We had a great first Monday of the school year together today. The boys and girls of Room 5 are working hard at learning all of our routines and expectations. Last week we agreed on a set of classroom rules. I was impressed with the amount of thought that the class put into our rules. Be sure to check out the rule chart when you come to Open House on Thursday! Open House is this Thursday from 6:00- 7:30.
Enrichment block starts this week. Our class will have PE on Thursday. The following week, we have art. Then on Thursday, September 29 we will have music. Our enrichment block schedule will always follow that pattern. I will do my very best to let the class know when we have PE so everyone will come to school wearing sneakers.
Our first Star Student will be nominated this Friday afternoon! I will be looking for a student who is working hard at following directions, working hard and following all of our core values. I wonder who the first Star Student will be? If this week is anything like last week, I will have a lot of choices! Keep working hard boys and girls.
The Core Ethical Value we are focusing on as a school is respect. We answer questions in the morning about different ways we could show respect around school and at home. We are also looking for evidence of respect in our read alouds. This week we will make a chart that will help us identify what our bodies will look like and what our voices will sound like when we are showing respect.
We are continuing to talk about building our lives as readers during literacy. We practice real reading versus fake reading. We also talked about our favorite reading spots and what makes them a positive place to read. This week, we are going to talk about “treating books as if they were gold” versus reading like a “curmudgeon.” We are also going to set up our reading logs in class. Eventually students will be required to fill out the same reading log at home. We are going to practice for a while in school before the students are asked to complete the log at home.
See you Thursday!
