The boys and girls wrote a wonderful Honesty Pledge that the whole school read aloud when we pledged honesty on Friday. The pledge that we wrote is:
I pledge honesty. I will show honesty by…
- Being a good sport during a game or practice.
- Telling the truth to others or myself.
- Keeping my word if I make a promise.
- Being trustworthy and loyal.
- Taking ownership of my work.
- Thinking before speaking or acting.
- Taking ownership of my actions or my mistakes.
- Having confidence in myself to make good choices.
- Returning borrowed items.
Since we are done with morning announcements as of Friday, we are passing the honor of writing the Core Value pledges on to Mrs. Lonsdale’s class. Her class will take over morning announcements and write the two remaining pledges.
We have our first field trip to Bushy Hill on Wednesday! If you volunteered to chaperone, you can come to school and carpool or meet us at Bushy Hill around 10:00. The address is Bushy Hill Nature Center 253 Bushy Hill Rd. Ivoryton, CT 06442 Students are asked to wear layered clothes and sneakers since we will be outside all day long. Students have to bring their own snack, drink and lunch in a bag with their name and room number clearly written on it. If you have not returned your permission slip, please do so ASAP since our trip is tomorrow.
Last Wednesday, I sent home information about the Fire Safety Poster Contest that I am hosting. Please consider creating a poster based on this year’s theme of “Don’t Wait-Check the Date” I included some tips along with the poster directions. If you’d like more information about this year’s theme, please visit my classroom webpage: http://misspantalena.weebly.com/firefighter-miss-p.html
Next Monday, I am hosting a Safety Day at Brewster. The last four years I was at Korn, I hosted a Fire Safety Day. Now that I am at Brewster, I am taking on a day for Pre-K through 3rd grade. Pre-K will explore Durham’s Engine. Kindergarten and 3rd grade will have fire safety talks done by me, learn about Durham’s Engine and experience the Smoke Trailer. The Smoke Trailer is a controlled environment that looks like a bedroom. Students will experience the room filling up with theatrical smoke (Kindergarten will not have the smoke) and the fire alarm will sound. Students will learn how to get low, stay low and safely escape through the window with the assistance of a fire fighter. First grade will have a bike safety talk done by a member of Durham’s Ambulance Corp. and Mr. Edwards. They will also learn how to properly manage a cut on themselves or a friend and they will learn about what information they will need if they ever have to call 9-11. Second grade will have a demonstration by one of our wonderful State Troopers.
Room 5 would like to congratulate Pete for being this week’s Star Student! Pete has been working very hard. He is making good choices and participating in our lessons. Keep working hard Pete! Room 5 is proud of you.
