I really enjoyed being able to meet with everyone last week during conferences. I am very proud of all of the progress every single one of my students has made throughout this year. Everyone is working incredibly hard and learning a lot. It truly is amazing to see the change in my students over the years. At first I was skeptical about the Common Core, but my third graders this year are doing things that I never would have thought third graders could do. Keep up the awesome work kids! I’m proud of you!
This weekend is my fire department’s Easter Flower sale. I will be there April 3rd and April 4. To make it easier, to remember, I will be there both days from 11-5. If I am not there, I probably ran home to walk Stryker so ask one of the fire fighters to call my cell phone. I will come right back. I may even come back with Stryker! The address is 2 Kondracki Lane in Wallingford. It is near Lyman Hall High School and Stevens Elementary School.
We are going to start our geometry unit this week. Students will be responsible for learning the names of quadrilaterals such as rhombus, parallelogram, square, rectangle, and trapezoid. Students will have to describe the lines (parallel, intersecting and perpendicular) and the angles (right, acute and obtuse) of each quadrilateral. Students will also have to identify and describe right, acute, obtuse, scalene, isosceles and triangles. Students will also learn what a polygon. More information about the properties and characteristics will be coming as we get further into the unit.
Please make sure your student has completed the assigned TenMarks lessons by April 4. Students were assigned the following lessons.
· Adding in Equations
· Subtraction
· Addition and Subtraction (Mixed practice)
· Multiplication by Multiples of 10
· Solving Word Problems Using Equations and Estimation
I assigned the following new lessons to be completed by Friday, April 17.
· Rounding Using Number Lines and Rounding Hills
· Place Value and Rounding to the 10s and 100s
· Rounding and Word Problems
If you do not have a way to get your child into a computer or a tablet to complete these assignments, please contact me and we can figure something else out.
Thanks for your support and hopefully I will see you this weekend!
