Welcome to conference week! Please remember when you look at your son/daughter’s report card that a grade of a 3 is the goal for the end of the year. A lot of my students remained at a grade of a 2, not because of lack of growth but due to the fact that a 3 is the goal for the end of the year. A grade of a 3 means that the student is consistently and independently performing the skill. A grade of a 2 means that the skill is developing and the student is progressing towards mastery. I will share a visual that shows the difference between a 2 and a 3 at your conference.
Another consideration when looking at report cards is that a few students went down in math under the properties of operations standard. We learned the commutative property term 1. We learned the distributive, associative, zero property and began talking about orders of operations term 2. If a student was solid with the commutative property originally but struggles with the new operations, I had to lower their grade. I am confident that the grade will go back up for the last term due to more exposure and practice.
Please consider having your son or daughter join us for conferences. I’d like to be able to share all of the accomplishments with you in front of him/her
Thank you for your generosity! Room 2 raised $291.96 for Pennies for Patients! I am extremely impressed with the kindness and thoughtfulness of my students. Awesome job boys and girls! You helped a lot of people with your donations.
Congratulations to Maggie for being this week’s Star Student! Maggie has been working exceptionally hard lately! She is making awesome connections between lessons and is really using her “math toolbox” when given challenging problems. Congratulations Maggie, Room 2 is incredibly proud of you!
The boys and girls have an awesome week ahead of us. We have “The Bird Lady” coming to school on Monday to show us real, live birds of prey. She has a bird conservatory in Massachusetts and she rehabilitates injured birds of prey. Her presentation is a wonderful addition to our science unit. We also have Eli Whitney coming to school to do an ecosystem workshop for our kids. If you plan on coming to assist, please be here for 1:00 on Tuesday.
My hours for my fire department’s flower sale will be Friday 12:00 until 5 and Saturday from 11-5. I will be periodically running home to let Stryker out. If you happen to show up when I am home, please ask any of the firemen to call me on my cell phone. I live 5 minutes from the firehouse so I will come right back (maybe with Stryker!) The address for Company 8 is 2 Kondracki Ln in Wallingford. Please try to come and see me. I’d love to show you around my firehouse and show you our trucks.
Thank you for your continued support!
