Our first few days together went very well! The class seems eager to start their Third Grade year. We are working hard to learn what a Third Grader at Brewster looks like. We are also working hard at learning Room 5 expectations and routines. I am very proud of how quickly all of the students have picked up the morning routine. Students know that when they come into the classroom, their backpacks get hung up, notes get turned in, book boxes are retrieved and morning work is started. The class is also working hard at perfecting “walking in a line of a four.” Students are asked to have their hands by their sides, facing forward with their voices off. By doing this, they show they are ready to enter the hallway. Keep working hard kids, you are doing a wonderful job!
I am looking forward to meeting with all of the parents and guardians this Wednesday for Information Night. It will be from 6:45-7:30. If you can not make it, I will post my presentation on our classroom webpage: www.misspantalena.weebly.com and I will send home all hand outs the following day. I unfortunately can not be in school on Wednesday due to a funeral but I will be back later that night. Open House is the following Thursday from 6:00-7:30.
We are going to begin our first math unit this week. We are going to review patterns to begin the unit. From there, we will move to learning about place value and the properties of addition and subtraction. Eventually, students will be given addition fact quizzes to help increase fluency and accuracy of facts. Students and parents will be notified when these quizzes will begin.
We are going to begin talking about the importance of reading during our literacy blocks this week. Students move from learning to read to reading to learn during third grade. It is imperative that students read for approximately 20 minutes a night. By reading or listening to reading at night for 20 minutes, students will increase fluency, accuracy and comprehension skills. If you have not emailed a photo of your child reading in his/her favorite reading spot yet, please do so! My email is [email protected].
Warmly,
Miss Pantalena
