Starting this week, students will have spelling homework in addition to their nightly work and the reading question. Like the reading question, the spelling homework will be due on Monday. Another change this week will be missed homework slips. If students do not hand in their homework by 9:10, when I check in the homework, a slip will go home that needs to be signed. I announce that I am about to check the homework which is a cue to help the students that forgot to hand it in. After that, I will check in homework and if it’s still not turned in, a slip will go home. The notes are not meant to be a punishment, they are meant to help foster more responsibility.
Please consider helping your child take part in “The Great Core Ethical Value Challenge” that I sent home last week. If students create a poster (8.5” x 11”) that abstractly represents and reflects the Core Ethical Values, they will receive two homework passes from me! The Core Ethical Value Challenge posters are due to me by December 5.
Students are also asked to participate in the Fire Safety Poster contest that I am running. I have gotten very few posters back so to increase interest, I am offering one homework pass for each submission. The fire safety posters are due to my by October 15.
I am struggling to pick one Star Student this week. Two students have been shining stars the last few weeks therefore, I am going to do something I rarely ever do. I will have two Star Students this week! Brooke and Mike will share the title of Star Student! We will celebrate Brooke this week and then we will celebrate Mike next week! Congratulations Brooke and Mike! Brooke has really been pushing herself to be more responsible and to be the leader that she was born to be. She is working hard and is truly rising to the expectations of Room 2. Congratulations Brooke, Room 2 is very proud of you! Room 2 would also like to congratulate Mike for being Star Student! Mike has gone out of his way to assist a classmate. He is kind, respectful and patient. Mike truly is a wonderful friend and classmate. Congratulations Mike, Room 2 is proud of you!
Thank you to the parents that sent in boxes of tissues so far. Our noses thank you! We have a lot of sniffling noses that have benefited from the softer tissues. Thank you so very much.
I emailed everyone last week but just as a reminder, students and parents are invited to come visit me on Saturday, October 17 at the Taste of Wallingford. My fire department’s booth should be near the bank and Town Hall on Main Street. I will be there from noon to five. If you come to visit and I am not there, please have one of the firefighters call me. Chances are, I ran down the hill to walk Stryker. I will come back up to see you, maybe even with Stryker! If you can not make the 17th, please feel free to come down to my fire department on Halloween night. We do a mini haunted house, hand out candy and serve cider and donuts. I am not sure of my hours just yet but I am assuming I will be there between five and eight. I will have more information about Halloween as it gets closer. I hope to see you at one or both of the events!
Warmly,
Miss Pantalena
