The boys and girls of Room 2 worked extremely hard last week. They took a lot of assessments so I could complete their report cards. All and all everyone did very well. The assessments revealed that the kids have learned and retained a lot since day one of third grade. The assessments also revealed that the class as a whole could benefit from further practicing addition, subtraction, multiplication and division facts so automaticity and fluency increases. Visit http://www.webmathminute.com/online.asp for online mad minutes. The boys and girls also need further support with finding specific details that support their comprehension when it comes to written responses. Lastly, we need to continue working on multi step word problems, especially word problems with mixed operations. We will continue to work hard in school to become more consistent with our answers so more 3s could be earned on report cards next term. A grade of a 3 means that the student has mastered the skill and could consistently and independently performs the skill. In contrast, a grade of a 2 means that the student still needs some support and guidance to perform the skill. Lastly, a grade of a 1 means that the student is significantly below grade level and/or needs a lot of support in order to perform the skill. I am looking forward to sharing examples of student work and growth with you in a few weeks at conferences. If a conference time or date needs to be changed, please contact me. I still have a decent amount of openings and am very willing to work with you to find a better day.
I had a ridiculously hard time deciding between two students this week for the title of Star Student. I posed this problem to the class and they agreed that it was alright to have two Star Students. The sense of family, support and compassion that this group of students has continues to surprise me. This is the first group of students that will clap for each other without being asked and will go out of their way to make a classmate smile. I truly do have an amazing bunch of kids this year! Thank you to all the boys and girls for allowing Kevin and Felicity to be our Star Students!
Kevin, you are our Star Student this week because you have been working very hard lately. Every day you are becoming more outgoing and more willing to share your amazing ideas. You have also been working hard in math lately. The extra effort has not gone unnoticed. You are participating more and you are always willing to help a classmate. Keep up the amazing work Kevin, Room 2 is proud of you!
Felicity, you are our Star Student this week because of the amazing amount of growth and maturity you have been showing. You are constantly challenging yourself to try harder and to participate more. Your extra efforts are paying off. You seem more confident and are completing work in a wonderful way. Keep working hard and keep pushing yourself. You continue to impress! Room 2 is very proud of you Felicity!
Please continue to send in your box tops and canned goods for our Amazing Grace Food drive. I am looking forward to reading the kids' Turkey writings on Wednesday!
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
