It was so nice to see so many families show up for Folder Share. I hope you enjoyed seeing everything that we have been doing the last few months.
I am looking forward to meeting with everyone this week for conferences. Please contact me ASAP if the time/date does not work. I am more than happy to work with you to find a new time/date. Please keep in mind when you are looking at your child’s report card that a grade of a 3 is the goal for the end of the year. As stated in the note that went home in last week’s Wednesday envelope a 3 means the student is meeting grade level standards and produces grade level work consistently and independently. The student has also mastered the end of the year standard. Most of the class is performing at a grade of a 2. A grade of a 2 means that the student is approaching grade level standards and is producing grade level work and is making appropriate progress toward the end of the year standard at this time. Please don’t be off put by a 2. The boys and girls are working extremely hard on learning and mastering the new common core standards. The standards require greater rigor and depth. Overall, everyone is progressing nicely towards a 3.
As mentioned in last week’s newsletter, my fire department’s flower sale is coming up. I use this occasion to invite the class to visit me. Please do not feel obligated to purchase flowers if you can come. I feel more comfortable extending the invitation to visit when it is a department-sanctioned event. That being said, I think my hours will be Thursday, April 17 5pm-8pm, Friday, April 18 1pm-8pm and Saturday, April 19 1pm-8pm. As the date gets closer, I will have a better idea of when I will officially be there. If you are available to come, please consider coming! I will give the class a tour of the fire department and of our engines, tanker and squad. I will even let them try on some bunker gear and if the weather is nice, I will let them spray one of the hoses. My department is Company 8 and is located on 2 Kondracki Ln in Wallingford.
Please try to sign and return the permission slip for our Middlefield Field trip. We are going on Friday, April 4. Parents are welcome to meet us around noon for lunch and a hike at Wadsworth Mansion.
Room 2 would like to congratulate Kaelin for being this week’ Star Student. Besides being sweet, kind, respectful, responsible and hard working, Kaelin is incredibly talented and courageous. Kaelin approached me and asked if she could perform some of her Irish Step Dances for the third grade class. Kaelin not only entertained the whole third grade class (and many teachers that stopped by!) but she very maturely answer questions about her sport. Kaelin’s talent, courage and maturity blew the students and teachers of Korn School away. Congratulations, Kaelin, Room 2 is VERY proud of you!
Warmly,
Miss Pantalena
