Happy New Year!
I hope everyone had a wonderful, happy and healthy break. Thank you again to all of the wonderful parents that sent in items for our Holiday Move. The kids loved the treats. They also had a wonderful time doing the pen exchange and the gingerbread houses. The day before break is always one of my favorite days with my kids. Everyone is smiling, happy and excited for the holidays. The kids really enjoyed all of the activities. Thank you for helping make the day happen!
We won the Box Top contest again this month! Please continue to send in Box Tops, we have a very good change of winning the entire contest, which means we will win a pizza party! The date of last month’s contest prize of a pajama day will be announced soon.
Our science field trip was rescheduled for Friday, January 23. We originally had about 6 parents volunteer to chaperone. Please let me know if you are still able to come. I will send home a notice the week before the trip to double check that you’re still available.
We are going to continue working on multiple step word problems this week. We are pretty good at solving one-step word problems but as a whole, the class struggles when more than one operation is required to solve a problem. Please continue practicing math facts at home. Being fluent in all four operations will make this unit significantly easier for students!
Students will independently continue working on their narrative writing pieces this month. We will begin working as a class on writing informative and persuasive texts. Students are learning the difference between fact and opinion, which will help them write informative and persuasive texts.
Students will continue focusing on using facts from the story to support their written responses. Students will also start working on identifying the character’s point of view in texts. We will also review how to sequence events in stories.
Warmly,
Miss Pantalena
