Thank you to the parents who were able to join us on Friday during our field trip. The boys and girls seemed to have had a great time learning about Middlefield’s rich history. They also really enjoyed the scavenger hunt that Mrs. Martin arranged for them to complete while at the mansion.
I am extremely excited to announce that Korn School third graders are going to go see Disney’s Bears on Friday, April 25 at the Branford movie theater! Room 2 kids researched and wrote informational essays about bears. Our kids’ enthusiasm towards bears encouraged the other third grade teachers to incorporate bear research into their classrooms. As a result of all of the third graders learning about bears, Mrs. Stone gave us permission to add an extra field trip to the movies! To further the excitement, we will also be joined by Brewster School second graders. The boys and girls are looking forward to this trip because it also fits perfectly into our ecosystem science unit. Please sign and return the permission slip as soon as possible! If you would like to watch the movie’s trailer, it can be located at: http://nature.disney.com/bears
Room 2 would like to congratulate Piper on being this week’s Star Student. Piper is an extremely kind and respectful young lady. She is hard working and very reliable. Congratulations Piper, Room 2 is proud of you!
We have a busy week ahead of us! We are going to continue taking practice tests for the SBAC which is the Common Core assessment. We have been busy taking math and ELA practice tests to get used to taking an assessment on the computer in addition to learning how to use the tools that the test provides. We will take the official test starting the last week in April. Although the boys and girls will take the test, the scores will not be reported to the parents. As mentioned throughout the year, SBAC is in a testing phase. The students will have three sections for the ELA assessment and two parts for the math portion. It is incredibly important that all students are at school to take the sections. Please be on the lookout for more information about the test and when the sections will be administered.
We will also take part in our first Mystery Skype. We have been paired with another class somewhere within the United States. We will work together as a team to figure out where the school is located while the students we are Skyping with will be trying to figure out where we are located! The only way to be successful is to ask meaningful questions. Our technology specialist will help us prepare a list of questions.
I have not heard back from the Connecticut Fire Academy about when I will be taking my written exam so as of right now, I will be at my fire department (2 Kondracki Ln. Wallingford) on Thursday, April 17 from 5-8, Friday, April 18 from 12-8 and Saturday, April 19 from 12-8 (or until we sell out) for our Easter Flower sale. All students that come to visit me will get a tour of the fire department and our trucks. Students will also be able to try on bunker gear and as long as the weather is nice, spray a hose! If we sell out or if I end up taking my exam, I will send out a message via Twitter and Remind101 to let you know about my change in hours. My Twitter handle is: @MissPantalena and you can sign up for Remind101 by texting @misspantal to (860)484-0028.
