Thank you to my amazing students for being so sweet, patient and understanding last week. I was losing my voice on Wednesday and the kids in Room 2 really stepped up and helped me out. I had multiple students be guest teachers and everyone was extra sweet and patient with me. I apologize for missing the Chorus Concert. I stayed at home with Stryker in hopes of regaining my voice for Thursday but unfortunately, I lost my voice completely! I heard from the other third grade teachers that my class was amazing on Thursday for the substitute. I also heard from the substitute on Friday that they were spectacular. I was able to check in with the class via Google Docs on Friday. The well wishes, questions about how I was feeling and questions about if Stryker was taking care of me made my day. I truly do have a wonderful bunch of kids this year! Thank you boys and girls! You certainly know how to make a teacher feel special. As a result, ALL of you are my Star Students this week! Congratulations and thank you for being the selfless, amazing, sweet, kind and thoughtful kids that you are!
We have a very science filled week ahead of us this week. We are in the middle of our States of Matter unit so all of our experiments revolve around matter and how matter can change. There is a possibility that we will be walking up to the high school Wednesday, December 17 to visit Mrs. Vigue’s Chemistry classroom. Mrs. Vigue came up with an alternative science experiment since my rock candy is STILL not growing! Mrs. Vigue and I are still ironing out the details about if we will go to the high school or if she will come to us. We are also going to do a science experiment with Borax in our classroom. If you have not sent in a glass jar, please do ASAP (A mug will work also). We will be growing snowflakes this Friday and we cannot grow them until everyone has a jar.
You received an email from my email address last week on behalf of our room moms. Please note that we have a few items that need to be brought into the classroom for our Holiday Celebration. In order for the wacky pen exchange to work, every student needs to bring in a pen. I saw some at Walmart for $0.97 and some at Job Lot also for about a dollar. The wacky pen exchange will be on Tuesday, December 23. Please wrap your pen before sending it in. All students also need to bring in a base (cutting board or thick section of cardboard), candy to share, a box of graham crackers and a can of frosting-not whipped to build a gingerbread house on Tuesday, December 23. Students are also encouraged to wear their comfiest pajamas on Tuesday, December 23 or holiday colored/themed clothes.
This Friday, December 19 is a Spirit Day. Student senate decided to have the theme be Ugly Holiday Sweaters! Wear your wackiest, silliest, ugliest, most outlandish sweater on Friday. If you don’t have an ugly holiday sweater, make one by sticking ornaments or garland to your shirt. Let your creativity flow.
Keep sending in your Box Tops! We are in the lead for this month! If we win this month, we will have won two months in a row which will give us a good shot at winning the Pizza Party contest. Keep those box tops coming!Thank you to the boys and girls that donated items to our Toy Drive. Kids, please continue doing selfless acts at home to earn the money for your items. While I was at Walmart, I noticed a lot of awesome stocking stuffer sized items all for under $3. Even the smallest donation of a new, unwrapped item will put a smile on a child’s face.
We will continue working on word problems, myths, legends, fairy tales and fables this week in class. We will also begin talking about informational writing.
Thank you,
Miss Pantalena
